ABOUT US
The history
We met in 1983 when a group of polar dog owners in Troendelag
(Mid-Norway) wished to establish a local chapter of Norsk Polarhundklubb. We
were both central in the work establishing “Avdeling Troendelag” (Troendelag Chapter,
which it was first called), and we were both elected as members of the first
board. At the time Rita had 3 Greenland Dogs and Wiktor had one Samoyed Dog.
Wiktor’s eyes were opened to Greenland dogs, and when Rita’s Pingo
had a litter in 1984, he choosed a bitch puppy (or
more rightly – the puppy choosed him). When the puppy
was old enough to be handed over he couldn’t afford to pay for it. He therefore
had to mortgage himself and moved in with Rita who at the time rented an old
farm (Lavollen) in Bymarka in Trondheim.
However both us dreamt about moving to Roros. And now living together
and discovering this shared dream, the way to realisation was not long. The
fact that Trondheim winters are nothing to boast about did not make the choice
more difficult. Consequently we moved to Roros at autumn 1988 after first
searching the whole area through for the best building site.
For Rita who was a nurse there was no problem getting work. For Wiktor
on the other hand, it was worse. He worked as broker in a bank and at that time
there were not many free jobs in the finance market in Norway, even not in a
“metropolis” like Roros. So he had to commute between
Trondheim and Roros for about six months before an
opportunity opened itself in Roros in June 1989.
We immediately started to build a house, and on the 22nd of
October we could move into our new build house in Skjevdalen,
15 kilometres outside Roros. Here, at the gateway to Femundsmarka, we have a
beautiful terrain for touring, both in the summers and the winters.
After a while (in addition to having a few litters of puppies) Geir was
born in 1991, Trine in 1995 and Eirin in 1997.
