OUR BREEDING PHILOSOPHY
What do we stand for? Where do we want our breeding to
take us?
Like most of the
other Greenland Dogs breeders in Norway we feel the most important issues are
our dogs temper and health. We all know that this is decisive for developing
the qualities we need in a good working dog, which is especially important for
those of us who are active users of the dogs. We primarily think of our dogs as
sled-dogs, but also as pack dogs and hiking companions in the summertime. These
are also important reasons for why we settled down in a place like the gateway
to Femundsmarka.
For us it is also
an absolute requirement that the dogs are able to function well in a family
with small children and together with strangers, both children and adults.
It is also
important to us that dogs from our kennel “look like”
Greenland Dogs. Our goal is well built dogs that are in accordance to the
official breed standard. Several dogs from our kennel have reached Champion
titles at dog shows in addition to being hardworking sled dogs.
Dogs from our
kennel are working dogs, which mean that we only sell dogs to outdoor people.
Single persons or families who enjoy outdoor life both in the summer and winter
are from our point of view ideal Greenland dog owners.
When we sell our
puppies we always write a sales contract with the buyer.
Keeping dogs is
meant to be pleasurable as well as useful, whether you are interested in
outdoor life or not. Most people will be able to find a breed to suit their
needs. A polar dog will be more of a
nuisance than a pleasure if the owner does not have a possibility or wish to utilize
the polar dog’s qualities as working dog.
We have chosen
Greenland Dogs because we are active outdoor people and look upon the Greenland
Dog as being the ideal touring dog, both summer and winter. It has a wonderful
temperament and has become a natural part of our life.
At the moment we
have 9 Greenland Dogs and one Samoyed Dog.
About the Greenland dog

(The Spitz-dog Club), go to www.spidshundeklubben.dk,
and in Sweden Svenska Polarhundklubben
